AR-Powered Digital Twins for Smarter Plant Layouts
Transform static 2D blueprints into interactive, parametric 3D environments to optimize spatial flow and operational decision-making in real-time.
Visualizing Operational Excellence Through Immersive Layout Intelligence
This project highlights the deployment of EBI TWIN+, a cornerstone of the EBI Platform designed to bridge the gap between abstract engineering data and the physical reality of the factory floor. By converting static layouts into interactive 3D AR models, we provide energy-intensive SMEs with a sandbox for innovation. This solution allows users to explore facility designs from any angle and adjust operational parameters—such as machine speeds or material flow rates—observing the ripple effects across the entire production line instantly.
Through our “people-first” digitalization strategy, this tool doesn’t just monitor machines; it empowers the workforce. It serves as a bridge for communication between veteran engineers and new talent, making complex industrial systems intuitive, accessible, and—most importantly—optimized for the future of the GCC’s industrial sector.

Challenges · Solution · Results
- Static Limitations: Traditional 2D layout documents lack spatial depth, leading to frequent misunderstandings of complex, multi-level systems.
- Slow Iteration: Evaluating the impact of layout changes or equipment upgrades is traditionally a slow process, often requiring manual recalculations.
- Communication Gaps: Engineering teams often struggle to convey design intent to management and operations, resulting in misaligned expectations.
- Immersive AR Integration: Replaced static drawings with interactive 3D AR models that can be projected onto any workspace for collaborative review.
- Parametric Testing: Integrated a "Simulation Settings" suite, allowing users to toggle production routes and adjust operation times via real-time sliders.
- Dual-View Dashboards: Developed a unified interface featuring both an isometric 3D view for spatial awareness and a 2D data dashboard for quantitative analysis.
- Precision Planning: Improved accuracy in layout planning, significantly reducing the risk of design-related bottlenecks and costly physical reworks.
- Empowered Workforce: Enabled "Training-First Digitalization" by allowing operators to visualize operational flows before stepping onto the floor.
- Strategic Alignment: Accelerated executive approval processes by providing a clear, visual ROI on proposed facility modifications.

Background & Strategic Goals
In the face of a shrinking skilled workforce and aging industrial infrastructure, EMAA Blue Industries and ALSANX Inc. sought to redefine how SMEs approach facility design. The goal was to move away from “Dirty, Dangerous, and Low-Tech” perceptions by introducing a high-tech, intuitive interface for the metallurgy and steel sectors. By focusing on EBI TWIN+, the project aimed to provide a “single source of truth” where managers and engineers could collaborate on a unified platform, ensuring that digital transformation serves the people running the plant as much as the bottom line.
Implementation & Methodology
The implementation leveraged the power of AnyLogic simulation software to drive the underlying logic of the digital twin. Our team mapped physical scrap yards, EAF, and LRF units into a high-fidelity 3D environment. We then layered an AR interface that allows users to move through the facility virtually. The methodology centered on “Agile Adoption,” ensuring the simulation could ingest real-time OT-IT data to reflect actual handling equipment utilization. This allows for dynamic scenario testing—such as “what happens if we increase the gantry crane speed?”—with the results visualized immediately on Gantt-style operation charts.
