Revolutionizing Maintenance with Hands-Free AR Guidance
Empowering operators with real-time digital overlays and immersive training to eliminate downtime and bridge the talent gap in energy-intensive industries.
Precision Maintenance Through Immersive Intelligence
In the face of a shrinking skilled workforce, EMAA Blue Industries has deployed a cutting-edge AR-based system within the EBI Platform to transform how SMEs manage complex assets. By moving away from paper-based manuals and fragmented data, this project provides technicians with a “digital sixth sense.” Through smart glasses and mobile AR, operators see real-time performance data and 3D schematics overlaid directly onto their physical environment, turning every maintenance task into a guided, error-proof process.
This solution directly addresses the “Talent Gap” by lowering the barrier to entry for new apprentices while providing senior technicians with the high-tech tools they need to maintain peak operational efficiency.
Challenges · Solution · Results
- Instructional Friction: Maintenance staff lack instant access to clear, hands-free visual instructions while performing complex manual tasks.
- Static Training: Traditional methods limit "hands-on" practice opportunities, leading to lower knowledge retention and higher safety risks.
- Data Fragmentation: Monitoring equipment health currently requires switching between multiple screens, paper documents, and physical gauges.
- AR-Guided Workflows: Deployment of EBI Asist to provide hands-free access to step-by-step procedures and 3D mechanical schematics.
- Markerless 3D Tracking: Advanced spatial mapping for flexible interaction with equipment, including "exploded views" of internal components like gears and belts.
- Unified Visualization: Real-time and historical sensor data overlaid directly onto machinery for instant diagnostic insights.
- Operational Excellence: Faster and more accurate maintenance tasks with a significant reduction in human-related downtime.
- Inspired Workforce: Improved operator training efficiency through immersive, repeatable AR experiences that appeal to the next generation of talent.
- Smarter Decisions: Enhanced equipment monitoring through the integration of OT-IT data, enabling quicker troubleshooting and predictive maintenance.

Background & Goals: Bringing Talents Back to Industry
With 25% of the industrial workforce nearing retirement and 87% of companies struggling to find skilled talent, the goal of this project was to make the shop floor “efficient and inspiring” again. By focusing on Training-First Digitalization, EMAA Blue sought to strip away the “Dirty and Low-Tech” perception of the metallurgical and steel sectors. We aimed to create a unified ecosystem where an apprentice could perform expert-level diagnostics using the EBI Platform, effectively bridging the experience gap through immersive technology.
Implementation & Methodology: Agile Digitalization
Leveraging our partnership with ALSANX Inc. and AnyLogic, we implemented an agile deployment strategy that took the project from concept to a functional pilot in under 30 days. The methodology focused on “SME-Centric Design,” ensuring the AR interface was intuitive for operators on the floor, not just engineers in the office. By utilizing markerless tracking, we enabled technicians to visualize internal machinery components—such as red gears and blue tanks—without needing to dismantle equipment, drastically increasing uptime and safety.
