Background & Strategic Goals

In the high-stakes environment of metal strip production, traditional inspection methods are no longer sufficient to meet modern quality standards. Human inspectors, while experienced, face fatigue and subjectivity, while standard machine vision often fails to distinguish between harmless surface noise and critical structural defects. EBI VISION was developed to bridge this gap, providing a “digital eye” that never blinks. The goal was to create a system that not only identifies faults in real-time but also categorizes them into a “Defect Classification Grid” to help engineers pinpoint exact failures in the production chain.

Implementation & Methodology

Our implementation focused on the seamless integration of AI into the existing shop floor without disrupting material flow. Using a “Training-First” approach, we upskilled local operators to manage and interpret the AI’s findings, ensuring the technology serves the people. The system utilizes bounding-polygon detection to highlight pockmarks, streaks, and edge defects in a grayscale grid, providing immediate visual confirmation for the EBI Platform. By blending this visual data with AnyLogic simulation capabilities, we enable manufacturers to run “what-if” scenarios, predicting how surface quality impacts the structural integrity of the final product.
